The Basic Things in Making Your Own Postcards

by: Brent Durell

Are you up to the task of making your own postcards? It is easy enough print postcards, but you cannot have truly professional postcards if you do not have the right materials to make it up. Let me give you here the list of important things needed for professional postcard printing. If you are up to the task, you should be able to get similar postcards of the professional level when you do get these key important materials. So read carefully and take note of all these elements you need for printing good premium quality full color custom postcards.

1. A postcard template - While many say that you should always create your own templates for custom postcard printing, for marketing postcards, it is important that you get a postcard template as your key raw material. You do not need to use all the specifics set in the template, you just need the raw dimensions and basic margins set in it. In fact, it would be recommended for you to get the template directly from your target postcard printing service so that there won't be any compatibility issues with your drafts.

2. A design application/software - You will also of course need a design application or software. Everything is done digitally these days and you cannot have good quality designs for full color postcards without using good and highly featured design software.

Many people use professional tools like Photoshop or Publisher, but it all depends on your skill and your access to these applications of course. Just make sure though that you try to get the best one that will help you create the design you really imagined for your custom full color postcard prints.

3. Clear high resolution images - To create great postcards you need great images. Of course, besides having a perfectly formed and composed photograph or digitally created graphic, you will want it as clear and as sharp as possible for printing postcards. In this regard, you will want to use high resolution images that are ideal for the printing process. A resolution of 300 dpi or higher is ideal. Never use anything lower as any printer will show pixels or get fuzzy if you insert something of a lower quality.

4. Interesting and appealing text content - Your postcards of course need content. You cannot just have a picture there. For whatever purpose, your color postcards should have at least a slogan or title at the cover, as well as some supporting content at the back.

These content must always be original. Do not use something common, and do not just derive a simple variation form other typical content and slogans. Be creative and write something yourself and you will get a good material for your professional printing.

5. A good postcard printer - Finally, one of the key things needed for great professional postcards is of course a good postcard printer. If you have an expensive digital printer in the office that would be good, but for most of us, the best solution is to hire an online printing company.

With a good printer with postcard printing experience, you will get ideal postcard prints. So remember to always get a great and skilful partner for printing postcards. This would be your key ally and “raw material” for truly great and effective postcards fit for any goal you want them to go for.

So never print your postcards without gathering all these important postcard materials before. They will not be complete without these.
